OHR Update: New Music, Shows, and More!
There is no denying that we have been busier than ever here at OHR HQ! It seems that the more time that passes, the stronger we become. Each year we are fortunate to look back at immense growth in all aspects of our musical journey. This should come as no surprise, we’re now 3 and 1/2, so we’re getting pretty mature, ya know! Allow us to shed some light on all of the things that have been happening!
NEW MUSIC!
Seeing as we are a record label, let’s start with the music, shall we? Since our last update we have put out some high-quality releases that many of you have been enjoying! We’re talking about the newest singles from Lisa Lawrence and Sage Hatfield. The former being 1993 If I Had a Time Machine. This new single from Lisa Lawrence displays the powerful and operatic vocal delivery we would (lovingly) expect from her. At its core, this is a pop song. However, the country/folk leanings create an interesting contrast with the ethereal production of the song. (At the production helm was in fact Lawrence, herself!)
Sage Hatfield’s latest single is another sultry, lo-fi offering, but this time is a duet! Sage is accompanied on this track by singer songwriter Hannah Bowers. Hatfield released the single alongside a music video which presents a cohesive visual of the song. While being a great source of the typical Hatfield brand of sweet, sugary indie pop, the song expands into something that essentially defies description. This single has been released as a lead off for Sage’s upcoming album, Postcards from New England, due out this year.
In the way of upcoming releases, we also have a few things cooking! OHR’s next release is the highly anticipated Zen and the Art of Rock and Roll Maintenance from O’K and the Night Crew. Their first album was released in 2018 and fans have become increasingly eager with each announcement that has brought us to this moment. Singles from the album include The Poor Surgeon and Phaedrus the Wolf, which are currently available for streaming. The rest of the album will be released on September 25 as a digital release, with cassettes to follow: Bandcamp pre-order
Another upcoming release is Black Angel, a new single from Derek Smith. In addition to fronting The Cosmic Vultures, Derek is a prominent singer songwriter in the Boston area, and beyond. His last two releases Obscura and Rubedo, both full-length solo records, have each received double-digit-thousands of plays across streaming platforms. Black Angel goes live on October 13!
AWARDS!
While we’re on the subject of Derek Smith and Co. Let’s talk about The Cosmic Vultures! These guys were the first band to sign on with us. That was 2020. You know, when the world fell apart! Since that time, the label has grown, and The Cosmic Vultures have been a big part of that, as they have been growing right alongside us. For a second straight year The Cosmic Vultures have been nominated by The New England Music Awards! We’re extremely proud of the work that they have been doing and it’s great to see it recognized by the broader music community. We ask all of you to vote for The Cosmic Vultures for Rock Act of the Year!
