Solo Venture for a Vulture: Derek Smith releases new single, announces new album

‘Strike while the iron is hot’ and ‘never leave the table while you’re on a heater’. If anyone understands these two expressions it is Derek Smith of The Cosmic Vultures. The Boston based musician has been an extremely active part of the greater Boston area scene with his band. Now, with a solo album Rubedo due out on December 21, it looks like the front-man has found reason to expand his outlet into the realm of solo material.

Smith released the lead off single Fire in the Forest on November 18. It very well could be that this ethereal number was a glimpse into what is to come. Only time will tell. As previously stated, the upcoming album is a solo effort, but that doesn’t mean its without Vulture DNA! Rubedo features performances from TCV band-mates and was produced by fellow Vulture Jonathan Chesbro.

The Cosmic Vultures’ sonic universe has expanded this year with the addition of their newest single Psychotherapy. This 11 song offering will showcase the high level of Smith’s songwriting and performance prowess; making a mighty fine addition to Derek’s catalog.

Winter is coming and so is Rubedo.
